I Don’t Believe in Unhealthy Food

I’m the owner of a health food brand, but I don’t believe in unhealthy food. That’s not to say that I don’t understand that some foods are more nutrient-dense than others, and some foods spike blood sugar and may make you feel anxious and tired if eaten in excess. I just don’t believe that you need to cut anything out in order to have a “healthy” diet, or need to label foods as “bad” or “unhealthy”. Everything in moderation… it’s a well-known saying that has been taught to me my entire life. I allow myself to eat whatever I want, as long as it makes me feel good.

Over the past few years, especially the year before starting NOCO, I was hyper aware of my eating habits and how they changed my mental state. After extensive research, I decided to cut out dairy and sugar. These were labeled as unhealthy through my research on inflammation and gut healing practices. After a few months of restricting, I felt a bit better physically because of less inflammation, but I didn’t find that my mental state wasn’t any better, as my relationship with food was unhealthy and the restriction lead to binging.

I now allow myself to eat these foods in moderation. NOCO products are free from sugar, dairy, and inflammatory refined veg oils, so I can eat my favourite comfort foods, whenever I want, without thinking about how they will alter my mental or physical state, but I don’t deny myself these food groups when I’m really craving them (aside from refined oils – I stay far away from those!).

The most important thing to me is that I eat mainly whole foods without any additives or fillers. As long as you are fuelling your body when you are hungry, stopping when you are full, and are aware of how you feel after you eat, then you should have an overall healthier relationship with food. Make a conscious effort to read the ingredients in the packages food you are buying, and stick to products that are using whole food ingredients!
